Silent Mobius Movies

Postby EZ8 » Mon Apr 05, 2010 11:19 pm

I was searching random stuff and I happened to find Silent Mobius Movies 1+2 remastered released by Zero-Raws on TT.

Bandai released Silent Mobius movies on R1 DVD in 2008 and its dual-audio, but I'm certain its not the remaster since that came out in 2009, if the date on the torrent is to be believed to be accurate.

No group has released the remastered movies to my knowledge. The latest release I found was for the unremastered R2 DVDrip by A-Fanrips and they only did the first movie. I took some screens from their site and compared it to the remastered version below.

OZC, I know you've already semi-approved this project, but this is just to shed some light on this movie/show and let everyone know that it is being considered for a future project. We just need the final word from the Boss-man.

Is it me, or the original looks better than the remastered? (Better colors)

Don't forget it's also possible the group that released this could've just used a filter and sharpened it. I know what you mean, I thought that was odd at first too. Then, I realized that if you look closely, you can clearly see that the remastered version is cleaner looking than the original, and there are noticeably less artifacts and grain in the picture.

In any case, OZC has more or less approved this since he does have the DVDs and RAWs are easy enough to source even if we can't find the ISOs.

Btw I've seen Silent Mobius series, are the movies better or worse? Are they a recap of the series, a prequel or a sequel? (the series ending was very very disappointing)

About my comment on the quality, I didn't look closely, I just made a comment based on the thumbnails, from them I can see that the "Original" is better than the "Remastered".

The remastered has much less grain, but it also looks washed out. In the last screenshot, the background looks better in the original, but her face looks better in the remaster.

The movies were made PRIOR to the series, so they're much older. I've only seen the first, so I can't exactly comment on if they're better or worse. They aren't a prequel or sequel. Think of it as like the original Ghost in the Shell movie compared to the Stand Alone Complex series. Its like a a parallel universe thing, and in this case, I think the series would actually be a retelling of the movies. And I agree, the series ending sucked, oh wait...it didn't have an "ending."

The remastered R2 DVDs were released in 2007, and Bandai released them in the US late 2008, so this would not be eligible under the rules.

Hmm. With that in mind, I'm going to lock this, but I'm still going to check into it a bit further to confirm the quality differences because something tells me that Bandai wasn't given the updated masters, but I can't confirm that without doing a direct comparison. However, for the time being, consider it closed.
