Eureka Seven with FLAC audio

Postby crazero » Sun Jul 25, 2010 3:18 pm

I downloaded one of the FLAC audio packs for eureka seven and muxed an episode using GDSmux. the file size of the episode came out to be 1.39 GB.
Am I doing something wrong here or is it supposed to be like that? I don't know much about encoding but the math just seemed really, really wrong to me. 545 MB + 116 MB = 1.39 GB?
BTW, I didn't take any of the tracks out.

I've never used GDSMux, so I can't say what kind of results to expect, but yeah, that size is WAY too big. Did it maybe add all 5 FLAC files instead of just one?

I'd just use MKVMergeGUI and just add the episode and then the FLAC for the appropriate episode and mux.

(545 + 116) * 2 = 1.29..... did you accidentally and them all twice? either way you had to have added more files than you needed to which is making it larger than it should. i personally use MKVMerge too so i dont know how that program works either >_<

No I didn't do either of those things.
I played the the file on my TV that has good home theater speakers on it. I couldn't really notice any difference between the AAC and FLAC audio so I decided to scrap the idea of adding the FLAC audio.
btw, if you want to replicate this, GDSmux is a program that comes with haali media splitter, so if you have coreAVC installed, you probably have this to. Its worked fine for me in the past.

It seems as though we have finally been vindicated! "I couldn't really notice any difference between the AAC and FLAC audio."

:)

Back on topic, it is possible that you didn't notice any difference because you muxed incorrectly. I would suggest muxing using the official matroska tools (seriously, these tools rock....) and then report back on both the mux size and the quality of sound.

You can find all versions of the MKVToolNix at http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoo ... loads.html
(Current latest version is 4.2.0)

well you also need to remember you cant gain quality over the source. so if the source is only a 30MB AC3 your 110MB FLAC cant be any better just a larger decompressed version.

OH!!!! DONT GET 4.2.0!!!! its broke and doesnt like to mux some subs. i have seen this issue across many machines so i dont think its my setup. now i cant speak for any other version of mkvmerge as im only using 2.9.8 and i have never had an issue.
